Your body knew
before you did.

The room

Counselling with the
body let in.

Shreya Tyagi holds two trainings in one room: a clinical psychology master's, and dance-movement therapy — the evidence-based creative-arts modality that treats movement as language. Most sessions use both. Some use mostly words. Your nervous system gets a vote either way.

She is the founder of Samanvay verify, runs a queer-affirmative practice — the statement sits here plainly because it should be ordinary — and works a great deal with burnout and workplace stress, including EAP-style engagements.

The room is good for

  • Burnout that weekends no longer touch
  • Anxiety that lives in the body — breath, jaw, gut, sleep
  • Queer and questioning folks who want zero explaining to do
  • People who "can't meditate" — this is a different door to the same house
  • Anyone tired of talking about the same thing for the fifteenth time

What is DMT?

Frequently explained,
briefly understood.

Dance-movement therapy (DMT) is a registered, research-backed psychotherapy that uses movement as its main channel — not performance, not choreography, not dance classes. If your feelings arrive as posture, tension, or restlessness before they arrive as sentences, DMT speaks their first language.

  1. Notice. Where is the body holding today's news? No correcting, just noticing.
  2. Express. Small movements, sized to comfort — a shrug, a reach, a rhythm. The body says what it's been carrying.
  3. Regulate. Movement calms the nervous system directly — this is the part burnout responds to fastest.
  4. Integrate. Then words, as much as wanted. Insight with somewhere to put it.

No dance experience wanted. None. The modality works precisely for the people who'd never set foot in a class.

Signature practice

The 90-second
arrival.

The first thing she'd have you do in the room, shrunken to a screen. Four tiny steps, honest timing. Nothing saved, nothing sent.

  1. 01

    Land

Both feet. Feel the floor take your weight — all of it, for once.

  2. 02

    Scan

Jaw, shoulders, chest, gut. Which one is shouting loudest today?

  3. 03

    Move

Give the loud one a tiny movement — a slow circle, a stretch, a sigh. Ten seconds.

  4. 04

    Name

One word for how that felt. Say it out loud. That's an arrival.

Questions

Held, answered.

"I have two left feet and zero rhythm."

The single most common sentence in DMT. There is nothing to perform. If you can shift weight from one foot to the other, you have the full prerequisite list.

Is talking still allowed?

Encouraged. Sessions braid movement and conversation; the ratio follows you, not a method.

Queer-affirmative — what does that mean in practice?

Names and pronouns used without ceremony, partners included as naturally as any family member, and zero education-duty on you. The explaining burden stays where it belongs: with the professional.

Online sessions — does movement work over video?

Surprisingly well. The camera sees enough, you see yourself, and the body doesn't care about bandwidth. confirm availability
